Our fantastic teaching teams

Kindergarten has had a commitment to providing quality early childhood education for over 100 years – and a commitment to a 100% trained teaching workforce is a big part of our legacy. The years of study, experience, and ongoing professional development our kaiako undertake make a big difference, and are key in providing quality early childhood education that makes a difference long after the preschool years.

According to the Ministry of Education’s Early childhood education and young adult competencies at age 16 study, children who take part in quality early childhood education enjoy lasting benefits, in terms of literacy, numeracy, logical problem solving competencies, and social skills. Trained teachers recognise children’s interests and turn them into learning opportunities, helping tamariki expand and develop the skills they’ll need for school, and beyond.

Many of our teachers have been with Kidsfirst for decades. For them, teaching is a vocation – a career they have chosen because of a love of teaching and learning. They are passionate about the kindergarten philosophy, and share a belief children learn best through play, following their own interests, at their own pace.

They choose Kidsfirst for many reasons – the professional support and guidance our Professional Leaders provide, the resources and collegiality the network offers, and the fact that we are a not-for-profit organisation.
